We have some enormous piles of branches laying around our yard right now. We tidied up after the ice storm and the city took what we could move to the curb, but as you can see, there's plenty more.
We don't want to burn our piles, for a few reasons. One, smoke = migraine for Kate. Two, smoke = pollution. Three, free wood = free mulch = feeling like at least one good thing came out of that bloody storm (besides the money to fix our fence, that is). So we're waiting for a weekend when it is dry enough to rent a commerical chipper.
In the meantime, we have a few full size trees down as well. We got a wild hair one afternoon a few weeks back and Josh took about an hour to whip this out: A chainsaw chair.
It's not sanded, dried, varnished, cured or any other thing it's supposed to be, but hey-- we can turn our poor fallen trees into rustic patio furniture for free. I've always wanted to try carving and these seem like the perfect candidates.
