You Know You Have Arrived As An Author When... (Part II)

In continuation of yesterday's post...

Graphic designers create fonts based on your cover or story elements.

Your books inspire graffiti all over the world.

True story: My best friend is an English PhD student at a major university. The bathroom near their department has an ongoing graffiti Twilight argument in one of the stalls. She feels weird taking her camera into the bathroom for me. I don't understand why.

Twitter accounts exist for your fictional characters.

People just can't get enough of your characters and feel the need to keep them alive in new stories-- and their stories have followings almost as big as yours.

(I'm sorry-- I already had these links from Twitarded but I don't have links to any other specific fanfic. It's just not my thing. So I linked to a page that has every possible book fandom known to man.)

Entire weddings are scheduled around your release dates.

"Bride Courtney Gordon and her husband Shawn bought the novel just hours after getting married in Oregon, US."

Entire wedding themes are inspired by your work.
Yes, I totally made these Twilight Wedding Signatures for a wedding blog, and guess what? They get more traffic than just about anything. But I clearly stated that just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

These people did, though.

 So did these.

And it turned out... kind of awesome, actually. I think the moral of the story is "go big or go home."

Maybe most extreme: Fans permanently brand themselves with images of your creations.

Just so the Buffy fans don't claim some moral high ground:

Look! The top book totally says "Perks"! Proof that my fangirling over Stephen Chbosky is... wait, I'm using a tattoo as proof that I'm sane. Never mind.

All that's really left to say is...

That is, unless the other arm says "Poo-tee-weet."

  1. So...wait. I shouldn't get a tattoo that says "slytherin" across my entire back?
    *Blinks innocently*
Best idea for a post ever.

  2. Never have I been so moved by a book that I would tattoo myself... My husband on the other hand, may be a different story.

I love that Cat will take pictures of the bathroom for you. :)

  3. Does this mean that my Voldermort sleeve and the Twilight cover on my lower back are obsessive? *ponders this*

  5. So, I've prety much decided that people are insane. I really do feel much better about myself after this post.

Nuttymadam (she's on YouTube, in case you don't know who she is) would approve, though. ;)

  7. Oh wow, all the tatoos. As a staunch HP fan, I was aware of all the rest, but tatoos... I cannot imagine liking a book enough (with the exception of my own book) to get a tatoo of it.

  8. man oh man, the tattoos get me every time. thank god we're not allowed to get them at age thirteen. I don't want to know what I would have marred myself with.

  9. LOL.
And for all of those who are getting dark marks tattooed on their forearms (tsk-tsk), I hope they realize it's a surefire way for prospective job interviewers to axe them! Who wants a follower of the DARK LORD on their side?

    :]

  10. I may or may not also be considering getting a Buffy Tat. But not a super creepy one. Just the hands, heart, and crown ring. Which I could totally deny being related to Buffy if I was ever questioned.

  11. Uh oh. It is bad for me to think that the dark mark tattoos on the forearm were freakin' cool?
    *creeps back out of blog*

Commenting is good karma. And it makes your hair shiny.

(My own karma is better on Twitter-- I read all of these, but if you have a question, you might try me there!)
