Rainbow Gardens

Kate Hart
The theme of my Mother's Day was "rainbows." My oldest son and I planted two Rainbow Gardens. One is in our backyard-- we planted flowers in rays, in ROYGBIV order. Obviously they aren't up yet, but here are the before pictures:

We also planted a smaller version for my mom.

I'm actually working on two rainbow quilts, too, and the top of the small one is finished. Oldest son decided he wants it to be his school blanket so I'm rethinking my decision to put a white border and backing on it.

It's not a rainbow yet, but we expanded our vegetable garden this year, which means we can grow all sorts of new things, like corn and eggplant and kale. My husband got a tiller for his birthday (yes, really) so he added three beds: two contained beds on the left (plus designated compost spots), and a large patch on the right for melons, squash and, my favorite, pumpkins

For the time being, we only have lettuce and spinach up, but I love watching the boys pick their own salads and eating lettuce straight out of the garden.

And I love the rainbow quilt. Dark blue would be a good border/backing . . .
