Things I like, in no particular order: Books, hedgehogs, indie rock, Southern rock, crow(e)s, quilts, stained glass, maps, books, Nerdfighters, history, puns, HP, books, food, being outside, sloths, football, crafts, boots, fonts, Wayne's World, fabric, "your mom" jokes, mountains, and books.

Seven random facts about me are posted here along with incriminating photographic evidence.

How did you get your agent?
The extended version of the story is here, but the short answer is, "I wrote a second book and got kind of lucky."

Where do you get your ideas?
From what if questions. "What if there were witches in Oklahoma?" "What if, when we were hiking as teenagers, there had been an accident?"

Which days can I expect you to post?
Fridays are a sure bet and Wednesdays are a good guess. All other days are up in the air.

Photobucket You're from Arkansas? Do you know Bill Clinton?
I don't know him, but yes, I've met him.

You're from Arkansas? Do you know the Duggars?
I have never met them, but they do live less than a mile from me. One came to our door campaigning this fall.

updated Dec 2011: So it turns out that if your husband cuts himself on a table saw and goes into shock and you call 911, they send the local first responders, who, in our case, happen to be two of the oldest Duggar girls. True story. (The husband is fine-- just some temporary blindness and trip to the ER.)

Did you faint after taking that picture with Bill Clinton?
No, but I did try to make one of his Secret Service men take a nametag. They laughed at me.

Where did all these questions come from?
Mostly from here and here.

Do you really have your own writing treehouse?
Yup.

What are your favorite crafts to make?
Quilts and freezer paper stenciled shirts.

What's your writing ritual?
I procrastinate until I lose patience with myself, then lock myself in the bedroom and write for 12 hour stretches at a time. It's something I'm working on.

Are you an outliner or not?
I am. I have an Excel chart that rivals most military tactical plans.

Photobucket Three-toed sloths or two-toed sloths?
We do not judge sloths on the basis of podiatric digits. We welcome ALL THE SLOTHS. Also the hedgehogs.

What are your favorite books?
I made a list here a few years ago, and most of my very favorite have 4 or 5 stars on Goodreads, although I'm kind of a flake and can't decide if I want to do star ratings, so sometimes I don't, but it would take forever to remove the ones that are already there, so... yeah.

Do you love me?
More than you know.

Why are your boys so articulate?
Good genes + book nerd parents + luck. Also, I may or may not have labeled our house in English and Spanish when my son was a year old. Maybe.

Can you write a haiku to describe yourself?
Kirsten is mean for
writing this question but I
love her anyway.

What's your fave snack while drafting?
Stove-top popcorn and iced tea or Dr Pepper.

Are you a Razorbacks fan?
I'll root for them but I don't call the Hogs. My loyalties lie strongly with the Sooners.

Y U No Have Etsy shop?
Because I no have time, unfortunately. I'd love to have one someday though.

How the hell do you find such cool things on Tumblr?
I used this site and plugged in names of things I like. (Also, I'm glad you think they're cool.)

What countries have you visited?
I did a trimester at Oxford and a month of study abroad in Costa Rica. I've also been to Greece, Italy, France, Ireland, Switzerland, and accidentally drove over the border into Ciudad Juarez once.

You follow so many blogs! How do you keep up?
I guest posted about this here. I also commit the cardinal sin of blogging: I don't comment very often. Finding links for Field Trip Friday eats up my blog reading time. I always try to reply to @ mentions on Twitter, but I'm a terrible failure at blog commenting-- even on my own blog. :(  I'm sorry!

You follow so many people on Twitter! How do you keep up?
Everyone uses Twitter differently, but my general philosophy is that because I use lists and TweetDeck, it's no big deal to "follow for follow."  That way folks can DM me if they want. But I don't try to keep up with all 1000+ people-- I have a few lists that I watch consistently on TweetDeck, and other lists are just for reference. For example, I have a list of gardening people, but I don't actively watch their tweets unless I need to hunt down information.

Do you agree with all the tweets you post on your Field Trip Fridays?
No. It's an educational overview, not a round up of my opinions, though naturally what I select is influenced by what I find important.

Have more questions?
I'd love to answer them. They're like quizzes. I love quizzes. I'm one of those weirdos who answers survey questions on the phone.
